Were you thinking this was going to be a one-off award? We really have
been working on the logistics of this award over the past few months -
slowly, when real life doesn't get in the way. O.S. Brannon and Lou
Schultz have once again agreed to handle the nominations and voting
process of the award and you'll probably be hearing from them in the
next few days. My job is finance and procurement.

Last year a number of you expressed interest in helping to finance this
award. Because we hadn't decided how to handle excess money received, I
was reluctant to accept your donations. In the end, to make sure that
the award happened, Howell's family paid half the cost of the award and
Rusty and I covered the other half. Again this year Howell's father and
sister are planning to help with the cost of the award and although we
still don't have a final plan for a memorial account for any funds
received, we would happily accept any donations anyone would like to
make toward this award.

What I would suggest at this time, if you'd like to make a donation to
the Howell C. Jones, III. Sportsmanship award fund would be to make your
check payable to FineLine Racing and write F500 Sportsmanship award on
the check. I will send you a receipt and will keep a separate
accounting of these donations. Then as soon as we return from the
Run-Offs I'll make a real effort to move any excess money into some sort
of Foundation account or something similar.

I would also welcome any suggestions anyone might have to help
fundraising. The only idea I have is a "White Elephant Sale" at the
party. I suspect teams that have been doing this for years may have
things that you no longer use that someone else might like to have. We
can throw these things on a table and see what they bring. (Does Solo
have a Snell helmet requirement? I know we have a couple of helmets we
could throw on the table.) Anyone else have any other suggestions?

Ultimately this entire award will be handled by O.S., Lou and anyone who
might want to handle the financing/procurement. For the time being, I
am happy to help O.S. and Lou with this. Afterall, they are doing the
hard part.

Donations should be sent to Julie Cook; P.O. Box 682; Stone Mountain,
GA 30086.

Julie
