I was there, competing ( although I will have to use that term loosely),
and I can tell you just about anything you want to know. Me and my wife
both ran in our 88 Red Devil F440 Kawi. The Ladies winner was Kansas
City's Jessica Gray in a Solo Vee, shared with her Dad in FM open. I
believe she was in a close 2nd place, behind Christine Lebecco after the
first days running in dry weather. The second day, the river was flowing
pretty good due to about a 2 hour long rain storm with lightening. The
Ladies class all ran with rain tires and Jessica squeaked ahead of
Christine and won. Both ladies ran very aggressive in the wet, driving
sideways and hangin there tails out ( car's tail :), not personal tail).

On the Open class deal, as I understand it: about six cars were too
wide, when they passed the big "U" shaped template around the cars width
and they wouldnt pass through it. The ones that couldnt comply to specs
by day 2 were simply DQ'd and the ones that could comply ended up with
day one times that were 2 seconds slower than the slowest car in the
field. (That's where I come in). There was a massive bump that I call
the San Andreas Fault in the first days course. It made the cars come
airborne at 40mph and I broke a heim joint on my front shock linkage and
skidded off course, where the car sat until the days event was over. Two
hours of driving around Topeka for a 3/8" female heim joint , found the
$6 part and spent 40 minutes installing it,now ready for day 2. On my
first run on the second day, I got a little lost on course and spun out.
Testosterone did my thinking for me and I kept my foot deep into the
throttle, while the car went backwards and I stripped off about half of
the teeth on the secondary drive belt. I will have chain drive for this
car next season! Any other questions, I will be glad to answer.

Looks like the results are in. Scott Nardin in his Solo Vee appears to
be the 2004 FM Champion. A Vee also won in FML. I heard that it was
raining this morning. Was weather a factor when FM or FML ran today?

Does anyone have any details on the two cars / three drivers that were
DSQ yesterday?

Sure wish I was there!

Sheldon
