FYI

For 494 Rotax folks that use replacement cylinder sleeves instead of
replacing the entire cylinder, you should know that Rotax has changed the
way that the sleeves are made. In the past the sleeves were cast but Rotax's
molds were getting old and "movement" was noted during the casting process
thereby causing the ports to be slightly off "spec". This, of course, could
affect the timing of the fuel/exhaust delivery.

Rotax has started machining the ports into the sleeves which assures the
correct positioning of the ports. However, this leaves machining marks,
which we all know, SCCA frowns upon. Tony Murphy has notified both the
Racing and Solo Tech departments of the changeover and the ball is now in
their court. Whether they accept or deny use of the "newer" sleeves is
debatable but they know about them. If any of you folks have sleeved their
engines recently, you might want to check them before you get questions in
the teardown shed :-(.
