No Gene, I didn't overlook the first sentence. Saying that the engine
and drive train are to be derived from snowmobiles is not the same
thing as saying that ANY snowmobile powertrain derived components are
legal. F500 is a restricted class, and as the rules state in the second
paragraph, "any allowable modifications, changes, or additions are as
stated herein. There are no exceptions. IF IN DOUBT, DONbT."
Notice the "addition" word? Just as one may not "change" the engine to
Rotax's 1503cc snowmobile engine without approval, just because it is a
snowmobile derived engine, one may not "add" a transfer case, even if
snowmobile based (which Jay's is not - they have custom machined cases
and industrial gears - no snowmobile parts) without getting said
"addition" approved. That is the nature of a Restricted class.
I'm sorry if this leaves some persons genuinely unhappy, but I think we
did the right thing for the class.
