[F500] Kawi pipe length

Through a mismatch of parts between several sets of expansion chambers,
it seems that my pipes are too long. Dynoport suggests that I shorten
the pipe by 12mm in order to regain the lost rpm. Before I hack away and
perhaps make things worse, it would be handy to know what other Kawis
running Dynoport chambers measure from the flange on the engine to the
point where the expansion chamber begins.
I don't have anywhere to test the car other than laying out $$$ to go to
Pocono for a time trial. How can I be certain that pipe tuning is
correct? There is a speed shop with a chassis dyno nearby. I don't know
whether they use a brake dyno or an inertia dyno. Could I test there and
get good results? Does it matter which type of dyno is used?
