I think your math is wrong Chris.

pi x 1 squared = 3.14         Radius of a 2'' circle is 1

So, the square would have more area.

Anyways, if it is allowed, a square rubber standing on  end will give more 
compressable material which should allow use of a less dense substance and 
yada yada yada.
